VAIL, AZ – The Rincon Valley Fire District had a very special visit today!
A local resident of the Rincon Valley Fire District stopped by Station 291 to pay a visit to the firefighters that saved his life. The gentleman, who experienced a heart attack on the evening of December 4th, is also a retired marine. As tradition has it, a marine always pays tribute to someone who saves his or her life, something our patient wished to uphold.
This Code Save was a prime example of everything going right in an emergency, from the dispatchers who successfully did their jobs, to the bystander who provided on scene Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), to the Rincon Valley Fire crews who quickly provided Advanced Cardiac Life Support, to the hospital personnel who completed the necessary medical interventions.
CPR saves lives. RVFD crews arrived within 3 minutes of the call going out. The patient’s mother-in-law, an 87-year old retired nurse, was on hand during the emergency and provided CPR until RVFD’s arrival. Immediate CPR can double or triple chances of survival after cardiac arrest, according to the American Heart Association.
Rincon Valley Fire District would like to thank our partners in healthcare at Northwest Healthcare Northwest Emergency Center at Vail, Carondelet St. Joseph's Hospital and St. Mary's, and LifeNet 6.
As part of our heart saver program, Rincon Valley Fire District encourages all local residents to learn CPR in one of our free community classes. Call (520) 647-3760 to find out more.
Wishing you all a very happy holiday season!
